yeah so i didn't get to sleep last night until about 230am.  i had to wake up at 6am to take a test at 8am.  i woke up at 711am.  thank goodness dora has an 8am class too, otherwise i'd miss it.  i was supposed to go to sleep at 1230am.  but i didn't

"why?" you ask?

b/c a big, stupid, ;cockroach decided he wanted to visit lyn.  and it wasn't a regular one.  he flew.  we dont' know where he went.  jackie and i tucked towels under our doors.  it was funny though.  lyn was screaming her head off.  when it flew, we all ran (except for me and jackie, we just closed our doors).  that whole thing went on for a while.  i didn't wanna get outta bed today.  i was soooooo ;exhausted. (isn't that cute?; i think the little censored smiley is funnie!)

okay, i'm done now.

:: thoughts of the day :: [16 Jul 2004|01:19pm]
[ mood | pensive ]

whelma just posted something that caught my attention. i commented on it, and then realized it was starting to get long and i wasn't even finished, so i'll do that here.

first, here's the post:

"whelma, girl, i feel you on that for real. we were actually discussing that in the social problems class i'm taking. i think you'd like it (syg 2010, w/ hughes). no tests, just an easy paper due at the end of the semester. ANYWAY, i know, i wish the people who ran our country was more humanistic too. do you wanna know the reason why they're not? three symbols: $$$ ... it's as easy as that. and the sad thing is that it shouldn't be like that. my teacher often said that we live in the country where there is gonna be no more middle class. it's gonna be simply the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. hell, lemme write an entry on this right quick hahaha."

now with my entry:

money rules everything. that sucks, man. i've told people after watching bowling for colmbine that i'm moving to canada. but it's too damn cold. if it were warmer, i'd move there. why canada, you ask? well, it's closer to family than england and australia (i need somewhere where there's a lotta english-speaking people, dammit). if i spoke another language, i'd have no problem moving elsewhere. the thing that attracts to me foreign countries is the simple fact that a lot of them have national health care. it's regulated by the government, so hassle w/ insurance agencies, just higher taxes. but really, who cares about higher taxes when you are sure that you and your family won't have to pay much at all if something were to happen to them. why don't they have that here? i know, i know! because it'll put so much people outta work. i have a suggestion: don't let it be run by private business owners, just pass a law or something saying that they're government workers now. hahaha, i'm so funny. only if it were that easy.

good news! that silly amendment that banned same sex marriages i posted about a petition against wasn't passed yesterday. it was pretty damn close though. 50-48 i think.

anyway, i just think that everything would be so much better if everything weren't ruled by money. that, and if the people who deserved to get paid more did get paid more. teachers are the ones who make the foundation and expansion of everyone's learning. why are they paid shit when we have atheletes who play football and baseball and basketball getting paid millions of dollars just to play a game? you know the world's not right when we have that kinda shit going on.

in my social problems class today, we had a panel of the members of the glbsu (gay lesbian bisexual student union) and we had a little question and answer session. it was very informative. like think about when people say, "oh that's so gay." 'gay' in that sense is supposed to mean 'bad.' but then when something's good, you're like "that's straight." isn't that interesting? i never thought of it like that.

well, i think i'm done for today. the office i work in is always cold, and it's not too fun to type with cold fingers.

ttfn!!

:: it's happening today :: [14 Jul 2004|02:28pm]
for those of you who may or may not know, i changed my magor from advertising/public relations to psychology this past spring semester (a week before finals). i changed b/c i thought advertising was boring. i admit there are some interesting things about it and sutff i learned, it's just that i really can't see myself doing that for my whole life. i'm not money-hungry and stuff. i actually care about people.

i've been trying to figure out what field of psychology i wanna concentrate in. i've decided on child psychology. i may change my mind in the future , but for the time being, i think that's it. specifically, i wanna work with terminally ill children. to look at a good cause, go to http://www.gktw.org

here's something else for you guys to do. from the website: "But we need your help to fight efforts to deny marriage rights to same-sex couples, including any Constitutional amendment. Please, sign the Million For Marriage petition below, and be a part of this historic civil rights battle. Gay, straight, married, single...we need everyone who believes in marriage equality to stand up NOW." i learned about it from my social problems teacher. if you think it's fine and dandy for anyone to get married whether it be a man-woman, man-man, or woman-woman relationship, go to http://www.millionformarriage.org and sign the petition. they'll be presenting it to congress, so help out!

You are the most in touch with knowledge. It's the tree of life from which you tap the sap. You know what you want and you know how to reasonably get it.

Virtues: You respect people with plans. When someone has their head on their shoulders, you know that they can see straightforward and keep their eyes on the mark. When it comes to looking at the future, you take a logical approach: what's within your ability? A fortunate attribute that you have is the ability to set a goal for yourself, higher than maybe you feel possible, but still keep yourself within reasonable bounds. You take the time to appreciate those surrounding you and they do appreciate you in return. Decision-making comes naturally to you when you take the time to consider each option. People only come to talk to you when they are looking for a logical, reasonable solution.

Aspirations: You have an idea of what you can do with your life, but you push it up a notch. You need a profession that you can enjoy, so work towards it. You want to live near your friends and family while being as far away as possible. You also want to settle down while working in excitement and variation.

Quirks: You don't appreciate drama queens and they don't appreciate you. When they need help, they won't seek you out because of your ability to see through their overly dramatic predicaments. You have leeway for humor, and sometimes love to participate in it, but when it becomes irrational behavior, others can count you out. Loud noises are bothersome, except when they come from you or your friends.

Factors: Reach for the sky! Don't decide to do something because you're merely good at it, but choose something you might like to do, despite whether you're sure you can master it or not. Don't only save room for a few empathetic friends, but open up to everyone.

Future: When looking for a job, if you work in all of your talents (logic, decision-making, planning, and definitely humor), you'll find yourself happy. Come to a compromise for location; live nearby your friends and take periodic vacations or live farther away and take frequent return trips.

wowie, how true is that? i think it's pretty accurate ... woo hoo!

[ music | Ashlee Simpson - Pieces of Me ]

On a Monday I am waiting
Tuesday I am fading
And by Wednesday I can’t sleep
When the phone rings I hear you
And the darkness is a clear view
As you’ve come to rescue me

Fall, with you I fall so fast
I can hardly catch my breath
I hope it lasts

Ohh
It seems like I can finally
Rest my head on something real
I like the way that feels
Ohh
It’s as if you know me better
Than I ever knew myself
I love how you can tell
All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me
All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me

I get moody and messy
I get restless and it’s senseless
And you never seem to care
When I’m angry you listen
When you’re happy it’s a mission
And you won’t stop till I’m there

Fall, sometimes I fall so fast
Well I hit that far don’t crash
You’re all I have

Ohh
It seems like I can finally
Rest my head on something real
I like the way that feels
Ohh
It’s as if you know me better
Than I ever knew myself
I love how you can tell
All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me

How do you know?
Everything I’m about to say
Am I that obvious?
And if it’s written on my face
I hope it never goes away
i really like this song ... me and jackie were talking about it today. we're thinking of buying the cd.

On a Monday I am waiting
By Tuesday I am fading
Into your arms
So I can breathe

Ohh
It seems like I can finally
Rest my head on something real
I like the way that feels
Ohh
It’s as if you know me better
Than I ever knew myself
I love how you can tell
Ohh
I love how you can tell
Ohh
I love how you can tell

:: first day of summer b :: [21 Jun 2004|01:47pm]
[ mood | dorky ]

hey guys!

yep, it's been a long hot minute since i've updated.

so, i've started my summer b classes today. i woke up at 6am to get to my 8am class. ucf wants to test how much we learn since this term's only 6 weeks long by having us take a pre-test and comparing that to a post-test after the semester's over with. 5 weeks and 4 days to go in this term. it's so sad that i'm counting down already. whatever.

anywhores, my 8-950am class is for non-majors biology. i haven't taken any kind of bio class in 6 years (since 9th grade). so during the pre-test, i recognized most of the names and stuff, i just kinda forgot what they were. i completely forgot the steps for mitosis and meiosis, but i know what they are. there are gonna be 4 tests (one every other week), but only 3 will count towards my final grade. all the lecture notes are posted online, so i'm printing them up when i get to work. 75 pages total. [btw, i hate my job, so that's my payback to them for wanting me to do stupid things] bio doesn't seem too bad.

i just got outta my 12-150pm class, social problems. there are no tests in the class, we just get graded on a paper, so it's pretty much an easy a. we get to watch documentaries too. that's fun stuff. sociology's my minor, so i think i'll enjoy it. my professor's pretty liberal, so that's cool too. she kinda made it a point to use the cheapest book she could find, too. on campus, it's used for $45. i can probably get it even cheaper off campus, and that's always good!

the next 6 weeks may be crazy. i think this is by far my busiest summer ever.

alrighty, off to hell--i mean work--i go!

TTFN! ta ta for now! (remember that pooh commercial, nicole?)

since i've been a member since 2001, i'm using my 23rd most RECENT post. trying to find my 23rd post ever was damn near impossible.

my fifth sentence is: "'You obviously do not see it then?' she responded."

yes, i know it makes no sense. it was from a forward ... here's the whole thing if you wanna read it:

The following scene took place on a BA flight between Johannesburg and London.

A white woman, about 50 years old, was seated next to a black man. Obviously disturbed by this, she called the air Hostess.

"Madam, what is the matter?" the hostess asked.

"You obviously do not see it then?" she responded. "You placed me next to a black man. I do not agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an alternative seat."

"Be calm please," the hostess replied. "Almost all the places on this flight are taken. I will go to see if another place is available."

The Hostess went away and then came back a few minutes later. "Madam, just as I thought, there are no other available seats in the economy class. I spoke to the captain and he informed me that there is also no seat in the business class. All the same, we still have one place in the first class."

Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued. "It is not usual for our company to permit someone from the economy class to sit in the first class. However, given the circumstances, the captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone sooooo disgusting." She turned to the black guy and said, "Therefore, Sir, if you would like to, please take your hand luggage because a seat awaits you in the first class."

At the moment, the other passengers who were shocked by what they had just witnessed stood up and applauded.

This is a true story which is not usually told. If you are against racism, please send this message to all your firends, please do not delete it without sending it to at least one person.

[ music | josh groban - remember (troy theme song) in my head ]

i went to an advance screening of Troy last night. all i can say about that is this:

GIRLS, WE GET SOOOO MUCH EYE CANDY IN THIS FILM!!!

the camera cruelly teases you through out the whole thing! i was just hoping that somebody just so happened to bump the camera so we can get a glimpse of orlando jr. and brad jr. but no such luck.

it was also a pretty good film. if you're familiar w/ the iliad, don't count on it being accurate. i know a little bit of it, and even that little bit was changed. the key thing the people have to remember is that it was inspired by the epic, not a direct adaptation. i know that is one complaint people will have.

the girls were all very pretty too.

and another reminder as to why you should go see it:

GIRLS, WE GET SOOOO MUCH EYE CANDY IN THIS FILM!!! (it was a good story/movie too)

and i did have a very good dream last night :oD

The Prince of musicianship
Prince plays at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena

People wanted to see Prince. People wanted to feel Prince. People wanted to dance to Prince. He’s an artist who has stayed away from touring for six years, and he’s done it so sporadically that for a lot of people at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, it was their first chance to catch the pop icon.

The Arena was filled to capacity, and even before the show started people wiggled in their seats, and those who just couldn’t control themselves rose and got down to the funk. A man played a tambourine and it echoed across the arena like a misplaced drum.

And it would be until a full hour after the official start time that Prince and his full five-foot, two-inch body, would arise from under the stage to a roar that enveloped every crevice of that arena, a roar that started before the houselights dimmed and lasted through the first few bars of Musicology, the title track of Prince’s new album.

And it was a funk that grooved and swept across the room with uncanny energy. Prince’s music is hardly emotional. Instead, it pulls from you a carnal desire that travels through the dancing muscles.

The whole concert was a funk party that fluctuated from deep, sensual ballads to tunes that dropped fat bass lines and picked them up with the timbre of that one voice: Prince’s voice, which can as easily beg a woman to keep him in bed, as it can chastise a world for killing and violence.

Prince is a tiny figure. He wore white shoes (HIGH HEELED SNEAKERS) that lifted him inches from the ground. Throughout the night, he batted his eyelashes and with perfect timing, threw sly smiles at the audience. He is an undeniable presence on stage, who can compete for attention with musicians who played extended solos and wore breast baring outfits.

But it wasn’t when he played I Would Die 4 U, or When Doves Cry toward the beginning of the concert that his genius became apparent -- it was when he dropped the glitz of the lights and the sounds of his band.

He walked on stage with a purple acoustic guitar and laughed and went through acoustic renditions of Little Red Corvette, The Most Beautiful Girl in the World and On the Couch. It takes courage to do something like that. The stage was setup in the round and it was small. It felt as though the seats pushed up against it, and that every single space in that Arena was used up. Prince sat in a rotating chair and sang with a bounciness that people could relate to, and people stood, amazed and awed and sang single lines that melded into verses and not once did anyone turn their eyes away from the man on stage.

It was a performance based on the immediacy of the emotions. When Prince plays and sings, he pays attention and performs notes not songs, and when he delivers each line he’s still amused at himself and that keeps him fresh.

He mentioned many times how much he likes old school joints. And this felt like that. It felt like Prince was taking us back to a time when bass lines were slapped and musicianship was king. A time when lip synching wasn’t an option and music was real.

everything is sooooo true in that article ... i'm still recovering from it. there's not really much you can say about prince except for the simple fact that he is a musical genius in every atom of his being. when you see someone like him on stage, you know that he was meant to do what he's doing. he was born to do music, and he probably will die doing music too (sometime in the far future). he taught himself how to play over two dozen instruments. he writes, produces, composes, and performs 99% of his songs. God has given him the gift of music, and he's used it to touch everyone whose mind, body, and soul has given in.

i'm still very upset i didn't see his induction to the rock 'n roll hall of fame. but i've seen clips, and everything that was said about him is so true.

people may think he's weird or whatever, but in all honesty, what else can you say who sees music the way he sees it? i don't know what he sees it as, but i know it's more to him than just something to listen to in your car or while you're cleaning. it's his first love.

my brother didn't understand my fascination with prince. not until during/after the concert. i think he admires him most for his guitar skills and the fact that he taught himself. now he wants to teach himself too. he had me look up guitar tabs for songs. i got him purple rain.

my mother and sister are both in love with him.

my dad is the one who got me listening to prince. it's his cds that i took from him to bring to college with me. and i thank him for exposing me to real music.

there was this prince special that was on mtv last night. he says that musicianship is gone in music today. it's true. a lot is all about computers. i could care less about effects and choreography. it's just for show to show everyone, "i'm talented, but not enough to just sit here and perform for you. i have to have light, pyro, lasers, smoke, etc." you know a true musician when they don't want all that. all prince had was different colored lights, confetti in the beginning, and big screens. nothing else. and that's one of the huge things i loved about the concert. he didn't need all that to keep the crowd hype. all he really needed was him and the music. it was so raw. just perfect ...

i'll stop blabbing now.

if you wanna hear real music ... take a listen to mr. prince.

Lulu was a prostitute, but she didn't want her grandma to know. One day, the police raided a whole group of prostitutes at a sex party in a hotel, and Lulu was among them. The police took them outside and had all the prostitutes line up along the driveway when suddenly, Lulu's grandma came by and saw her granddaughter.Grandma asked, "Why are you standing in line here, dear?" Not willing to let her grandmother know the truth, Lulu told her grandmother that the policemen were passing out free oranges, and she was just lining up for some. "Why, that's awfully nice of them. I think I'll get some for myself," Grandma said, and she proceeded to the back of the line. The policeman was going down the line asking for information from all of the prostitutes. When he got to Grandma, he was bewildered and exclaimed, "Wow, still going at it at your age? How do you do it?" Grandma replied, "Oh, it's easy, dear. I just take my dentures out, rip the skin back, and suck them dry."
The policeman fainted!
